Ingredients
- ½ a cup of red lentils
- 4 cups of water
- 1 tsp of red chilli powder
- 1 tsp of turmeric powder
- ½ onion cut into small cubes
- For tarka (tempering):-
- ¼ tsp of cumin seeds
- 3-4 wholeround shaped red chillies
- 1 tsp of chopped green chillies
- Garlic cloves 6 finely sliced
- Mixed spice powder to sprinkle on cooked lentils
Method
Step 1
Take a pot, fill it with four cups of water and boil it, add in washed red lentils, turmeric, red chilli powder, onions, salt and let them cook on a slow flame for 20 minutes or till the lentils/daal softens. Now put lentils in a blender and grind them to attain a smooth consistency. Take the blended lentils out and pour them in the same cooking pot again.
Step 2
Tempering /Tarka Take a small frying pan, heat oil put cumin seeds, garlic, round red chilli whole. Fry till the garlic turns golden brown, put the tarka (tempering) over the lentils, there will be a sizzling. Serve with rice or naan bread. A sprinkle of mixed all spices or of black pepper can be done on the lentil curry just before serving.
