Requirements

  1. Smooth non stick mat
  2. Petal cutter (for five petals)
  3. Rolling pin
  4. Ball tool
  5. Sugar paste
  6. Food colour
  7. Tooth pick
  8. Sponge
  9. Edible glue
  10. Petal base
  11. Corn flour and icing powder to dust surface

Method

I am using flower paste which is white in colour; the sugar paste can be dyed to the desired colour by dipping a tooth pick in the food colouring and then wiping it off onto a ball of flower paste which you want to colour. With the help of fingers, press and roll the sugar paste till the marbled effect is no longer seen and a one tone coloured sugar paste is obtained.

1) Place the flower paste ball over the mat and roll it flat with the help of rolling pin.

2) Slide your spatula underneath the sheet and place it over the petal cutter.

3) The edges of cutter should be greased with the petal base. Roll the rolling pin over the sheet so that clean edges are attained.

4) Remove the flower petals from the cuter by gently pushing the ball tool through the flower cutter.

5) Place the flower over sponge and softened the edges with the help of ball tool.

6) Place the flower over the ridged/grooved sponge and press the centre of the flower, cupping will be seen. Let it dry in this position.

Now roll out a small ball and emboss the surface of the ball with any patternĀ  you like.

Brush edible glue in the middle of flower in minute quantity and place the ball in the centre.

Let it dry for an hour.

A pretty edible five petal sugar flower can be used to decorate cakes and cup cakes
